Moriremo Tutti Records

January 29th, 2010

Why did you start a label?

Good question. In fact, MTR exists since 1994, more or less, when I started playing noise music during my university studies, under the name of Der Einzige. I then used it to regroup the records I did also with friends (Human_Against_Hope and Norm), so I invented this name that in English means “We All Will Die Records”. In Italian sounds much better: “Moriremo Tutti Records”. Then I draw the logo (the man hanging from a tree) and I did some CD-R for friends, and later on a website.
But I never released any records until 2008, exactly in the moment when all music industry was in deep crisis and even the CD-R market is overloaded.
So maybe I found the best way to completely fail.
About in 1999, I wrote something like a manifesto, in which I don’t believe almost anymore a lot, but somehow shows our distorted poetry.

Why do you keep doing it?

Because there are projects in my mind that I’d like to realize, even if (or maybe because) thery’re weird and crazy. No matter of money lost. If possible, I like to recover the little money I invest, but it’s not so important. And I like to be listened. Honestly, most of MTR productions are self productions, in the sense that include music made by me or friend. I know Is a narrow perspective, but is not the only one.

Name 5 bands you’d love to release.

Controlled Bleeding, Sshe Retina Stimulans, If Bwana, AIDS Wolf, Torturing Nurse.
Ooops! They’re really band we’re going to release (in a forthcoming compilation).
Apart of them, maybe only the early SPK, that don’t exist anymore.

Do you accept demos, if so where?

No, not in this moment. But I often involve people in the compilation I do when they send me a demo and they’re really kind and the music is not too bad.
Believe me or not, music is not so important for MTR: it’s more a conceptual thing, in fact graphics and packagings are important as sounds, and same for the attitude of musicians.
For instance Luminous, an English guy that I involved in the CD-R with OvO, got in touch with me in a very kind and nice way, and as his music was ok, I involved him in the record. And I’m happy with that.

Topshelf Records

January 29th, 2010

Why did you start a label?
Initially, it started out as a means of releasing our own band’s music in a more legitimate manner. But it’s grown exponentially since.

Why do you keep doing it?
Since we started this in ‘05 we’ve developed great relationships with not only our bands, but fans, people we’ve encountered as a result of running a label and even the people we’ve done business with. It’s a great medium for networking and meeting other like-minded people. We have a ton of friendships that have been formed as a result of this — There’s a real sense of community that comes with it that is just really addictive and keeps you in it. Haha, of course, there’s obviously a love and passion for great music too.

Love Torture Records

December 21st, 2009

Why did you start a label?

I started Love Torture Records while I was doing a 3 year stay in the very beautiful, but very boring state of Nebraska. I started the label as a way for me to release my own material and ever-growing roster of projects, as well as meet like-minded artists and lovers of sound, and help get their art out to the world. LTR started out strictly as a Net-Label, offering it’s catalogue for download, free of charge, but with the intention of one day doing very limited edition physical releases. Now we have both :) We release experimental electronic music. We especially love noise. We are very open minded.

Why do you keep doing it?

Because I have to. First and foremost, I love doing it, and I get to work with so many amazing artists, and secondly because it has become it’s own beast entirely, and being the animal right enthusiast that I am, I could never have the heart to kill it. ;)   It is truly a pleasure and a privilege though, seriously.

Name 5 bands you’d love to release?

Kawaiietly Please, White Mountains, Amon Tobin, Venetian Snares, and Thurston Moore. Oh to dream ;)

Do you accept demos, if so where?

I am always always always accepting submissions for the Net Label. Email submissions to lovetorturerecords@gmail.com.  I am currently booked solid on physical releases until sometime in mid 2010.

Transfusão Noise Records

December 21st, 2009

Why did you start a label?
Because I wanted to create a logo to be behind all that was going on in terms of good noise rock bands of the region, including mine.  The label ended up fairing better than I had imagined and today releases records of bands from several states in Brazil and even from abroad.

Why do you keep doing it?
Because I like it and becase it’s very pleasurable helping good bands and being able to make a good name within independent rock.

Name 5 bands you’d love to release.
Guided By Voices, Tobin Sprout, Robert Pollard, The Amps and Eric’s Trip

Do you accept demos, if so where?
I do.  Everything that has to do with noise rock, indie Lo-fi and experimental are welcome,

Workerbee Records

December 11th, 2009

Why did you start a label?
I started Workerbee Records (under a different name) back in 2000, because it felt like I was hyping up all these bands around me, just as much (if not more) than my own music. So I decided to do the first Low Fidelity Living. Consisting nearly entirely of the bands I was working with at a pizza place around that time, as well as any band I could beg, borrow or steal from.

Why do you keep doing it?
I don’t know, most of the time I feel more like a carnival barker, or Flava Flav than someone who’s trying to run a legit business. I’m just trying to get people to listen to these bands. 90% of the time it’s disappointment and failure, but if I can get even one person to listen to a band like electric needle room, The Swansea Recreation Centre, Jordan Mayland or even getting one more person turned onto Jad Fair with the next Low Fidelity Living. i feel like I contributed something.

About 5 years ago I even had to sell the label’s original name just to help pay for a vehicle to get back and forth to work with.  I still regret it, but I had to do it to survive.  I guess I still owe my label something.

Name 5 bands you’d love to release.

Frail But Not Fragile

December 11th, 2009

Why did you start a label?

I started Frail But Not Fragile while still in high school (3 or 4 years ago) because i have control issues and wanted to basically put out a “record” (or ghetto Cassette then CDR) just to say been there done that and I wanted to help other bands put out music that I thought were good bands.

Why do you keep doing it?
I just really like doing it. Sure I don’t have a lot of bands on my list mainly because I ask few bands if they want to put out a release, but I just like doing this stuff.
